Building Websites

building websitesKnowing about building websites is one of the basic requirements for making money on the Internet. Even people who sell other people's products (affiliate marketers) understand it is important that they have a website of their own.

And because it’s such an important area to master if you want to find financial freedom working online it’s something we will look at in great depth here.

So lets start by taking a quick look at a few website creation tips that you should keep in mind when first starting out.

1. Create an outline of your website content

Before doing anything else you MUST design some sort of outline showing how you want your website to look and what content will be included.

This will become the blueprint that you will build your pages around and it’s vitally important that you research your site theme thoroughly before jumping in and getting started.

If there is nobody searching for the topic you choose then, no matter how great your site may be, you will not make any real money from it.

When possible, choose a theme for your website that allows you to work in an industry that appeals to you because your natural passion will come out within the site content. Examples could be fishing, cooking, Internet marketing, music, sport etc.

Once you have established the overall theme of your website, you should give some thought to narrowing it down into a smaller niche. This could be flyfishing, cooking Oriental food, blogging, playing boogie piano or improving your golf swing.

2. Include a plan for the search engines to find your site

If you use software for building websites you may still need to go back and optimize the page content so that it's search engine friendly.

After all, if your content isn’t relevant to the site theme, the search engine spiders will not rank you and nobody will find your site in the first place, meaning no sales for you!

The main thing with impressing the search engines is identifying specific keywords that you want to write the content about before you start actually building the page. These keywords should be placed in the title, the graphics, and also should be included in the text naturally. This is something that takes a bit of time to get right but will evolve for you as you develop your site.

3. Choose a good domain name

When possible, get a dot com domain name. Choose something that is memorable and relates to the theme of your site and, if you can, include your primary keyword in your domain name. It is okay to include hyphens between words if it makes the site name easier to read such as I have done with this site (www.Financial-Freedom-Advice.com).

4. Keep your site’s pages consistent to each other

When building websites pages make sure you use the same color background, the same font size, the same outline, and so on.

There are many templates available now that you can start from and it’s important to find one that looks professional. Then use this for every page that you develop.

5. Do not cut corners on web hosting

Web hosting may be the most important decision that you make. Not only are you looking for adequate bandwidth size that will allow you to grow your website over time, but also a web host that has a high period of uptime, because if your site is regularly off line you are not making money.

6. Do some brushing up before you start

Building websites can be a problem for many people so you are either going to have to learn basic HTML code, or use a website builder to get started.

Using website builder software such as SBI or Plug In Profits is certainly much quicker, but it is to your advantage to still learn basic code for making updates to your site in the future.

If the whole thought of building a website is initially too daunting you can hire it to be done for you. Websites such as eLance.com can hook you up with people who will build your website for you at a reasonable price although the designers will probably charge more overall than the website builder software I mentioned earlier.

Depending on your skill level building websites today is not massively difficult but, like anything, it will take some knowledge and effort on your part.

Be sure and understand that having a website is very essential when it comes to making money on the Internet. Without it you have no online voice and are missing out on the opportunity of putting your message (and products) to billions of people.
