What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Simply put, affiliate marketing is where you get paid to sell other people's products.

Merchants such as Amazon.com will pay you to promote their products and make sales for them and this is why affiliate marketing has become a multibillion dollar business on the Internet today.

Anyone can start in this area in a matter of just a few minutes.

All you have to do is find a product that you want to sell, and then join the affiliate program of the merchant offering that product.

It doesn't take any money or any particular skill to get started.

When I say it does not take any particular skill to get started this is true, but it does take skill to be able to generate money selling products on the Internet with literally millions of competitors offering similar things.

As an affiliate you are often given a moneymaking website, promotional materials, products and training. All money is collected for you, the product is shipped for you, and your commissions are sent directly to your bank or PayPal account.

This sounds like a dream come true right?

In reality to make really good money there are several things you are going to have to learn.

These include:

1. Creating Your Own Website

Using the replicated website provided to you is a bad idea, because it does not allow you to differentiate yourself.

You cannot make any changes to it when it’s given to you and it’s maintained by the affiliate merchant.

You also cannot presell or have your own voice when you use their website. And pre-selling is a massively important factor which we will look at in more detail under the website creation section.

Therefore, owning and personally maintaining the website or blog that you’re selling on, and being able to offer testimonials is a great way to increase your income as an affiliate.

2. Mastering Traffic Generation Techniques

It is definately one of the best ways to make money online if you take the time to master some of the basic traffic generation techniques.

Put very simply, that’s your ability to get visitors to your website or blog and then convert some of them into sales which earn you a commission.

This is the biggest reason that most people fail in this area of internet marketing. They are not able to generate enough traffic to their own website in the first place to then be able to convert it into buying customers.

3. Deciding Which Products To Sell

The biggest benefit of affiliate marketing is the products are already created for you but the hardest thing, however, is deciding on what products you actually want to sell.

The key is to find products that people want to buy, and then find as many ways as possible to let those people know about them.

It's an extremely powerful way to make money if you are prepared to take the time to master the skills that go with it. There are people all over the world making hundreds of thousands of dollars per month and per year as affiliate marketers.

This will only increase as more merchants come online offering new and imporved products to sell, and more people become skilled in the correct techniques of selling on the internet.
